Stay a Little Later: Summer Nights in the Fraser Valley

When the sun goes down, that’s when the Fraser Valley truly lights up! Summer is here, and while people usually talk about the days getting longer, we love the nights staying brighter just as much. It’s a wonderful chance to get out in the moonlight and find a few more adventures before heading home, or, if you’re really ready to savour the evening, staying over in any of our accommodation options. From energetic community festivals, to moonlit brewery patios, to a simple overnight camping outing, you’re sure to find plenty of fun ways to wile away your summer evenings. It all starts with a visit to the Fraser Valley!

Abbotsford

1. Live performances at Jam in Jubilee

The annual after-dark arts fest returns to Jubilee Park with more local artists and performers to get you inspired and keep you moving. Family-friendly and filled with energy, stop by on Thursday nights throughout July for a vibrant schedule of voices from our creative community.

2. Fresh air and craft flights at Fieldhouse Brewing’s lawn

One of the top names in local craft beer, Fieldhouse always delivers when you need a crisp pint on a particularly warm day. The “beer lawn” at their Abbotsford location is a particularly serene setting for you to savour every sip. Especially so when the sun starts to go down, the string lights come on, and the sky turns a dark pink hue. Peak summer vibes every night of the week!

3. Stargazing at McDonald Park

Wide open sky, and with minimal artificial lighting in the area, the forecast is just right to take a long look into the cosmos! This stargazing hotspot isn’t just a summer community tradition, though, it’s actually been designated a dark sky preserve by The Royal Astronomers Society of Canada, so you know the views are some of the best in the area. Bring a friend, get comfy on a lawn chair, and get lost in the constellations.

Chilliwack

4. Thrill rides at Cultus Lake Adventure Park

With the longer summer days here, one of our biggest Fraser Valley attractions has extended its hours well into the evening! With a discounted admission rate from 7 pm until closing at 10 pm, you’ve got an extra incentive to stay a bit later and enjoy each of the adventure park rides as they glow in the twilight. There’s a good chance the lines will be shorter, too, so you can really make the most of your visit!

5. Cheers to the summer at Sidekick Brewing

Sunset mountain views, the sound of the river, the odd cricket chirping here and there… for peak evening ambience, this is one of the top Fraser Valley spots to toast to another summer’s day done. The patio is dog-friendly and covered, so you can continue sipping even through the odd drizzle here and there, and the bright summer taplist will keep you refreshed through it all.

6. Quintessential Camping in Chilliwack

It’s a time-honoured summer tradition in the Valley, and this is one of the most renowned spots to do it! Chilliwack has an excellent selection of grounds where you can settle in under the stars, roast a few mallows and doze off with the only sounds being the nature around you. For one night, or for a full weekend, these camping grounds offer an escape from urban life without being too far from the comforts of home.

Harrison River Valley

7. A starlit stroll around Harrison Beach

There’s nothing quite like a summer stroll around the water in the evening air! An easy win outing if you’ve got kids or a dog in tow, or you’re just looking for a quiet spot with someone special. The park picnic tables around the path offer great spots to stop and dig into your snack basket as you await the stars. Pure nostalgic summer vibes.

8. Racing hearts at Agassiz Speedway

Ready for something with a bit more adrenaline? Gear up your summer evenings with a fast-paced, white-knuckle thrill ride! Under the racing lights, watch the track come alive as local drivers angle for the top spot when the checkered flag waves. Kids and kids at heart will adore this weekend tradition in the summer months.

9. An overnight itinerary  at Fraser River Lodge

This renowned riverside lodge has so much to offer, no matter the time of day, we thought we’d include it as a catch-all for even more summer activities. S’mores around the campfire, yard games, axe throwing, all with stunning views of Mount Cheam and a sprawling 18-acre property (including grazing grounds for wild bison). It’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else, and when you think the evening is coming to a close, their comfy rooms will provide everything you need to rest up and try new things the next day…and night!
