Between 1 and 5.5 kilometres long, the walkway passes through a diverse range of ecosystems and environments (mixed coniferous and deciduous forests, wetlands, and cliffs). You’re sure to see some curious wildlife along the way, so be sure to have your camera charged!

Harrison Hot Springs Resort – Harrison River Valley

One of the most relaxing natural experiences in the area, the Harrison Hot Springs will remove any doubt that you’re where you’re supposed to be. When staying at the resort that shares the name, you’ll have access to the rejuvenating pools, a spa, and all kinds of cozy amenities to help you unwind. The Knotty Brew – Abbotsford

One of the newest additions to the Abbotsford coffee scene, this friendly little spot is officially Canada’s FIRST crochet cafe. Grab some yard from the candy-colour shelves and catch up with a friend over coffee and creativity. If you’ve been looking to make some progress on a group (or solo) project, this is a solid place to start. 

TopSpin Pickleball – Abbotsford

We probably don’t need to ask if you’ve heard of Pickleball anymore. The fastest-growing sport in Canada is easy to pick up, but hard to master, and a friendly game (or lesson) between friends is good for strengthening your relationship. Just don’t get too crazy with the spikes!

The Local Harvest Market – Chilliwack

A family-owned farm market and bakery, this is not your average grocery store. Stock up on fresh area ingredients to boost your recipe, or split a just-out-of-the-oven cinnamon bun with a friend, and you’ll immediately taste the difference that shopping local makes.

Project Climbing – Chilliwack

Never bouldered before? No problem! This climbing spot has walls for all levels and dexterity. A friendly staff member will teach you the basics, and you’ll be off (in this case, ON). You won’t be going up too far, so no ropes are needed, and the cushioned floor is there whenever you’re ready to come back down. There’s just something about holiday trains around the winter season. From The Polar Express to the refrigerated boxcar that Frosty takes back to the North Pole, the magic and nostalgia of riding the rails always delivers the cheer. Now, the family-friendly festive fun rolls on at these holiday trains throughout The Fraser Valley.

The Greendale Express Train rides at Christmas at Greendale Acres in Chilliwack from November 28th until December 23rd, 2025. Hop on for a classic Christmas experience through a dazzling maze of twinkling Christmas lights and festive decorations on the farm. Greendale brings an extra touch of nostalgia with the inclusion of The Old Yale Rd Lights, a local favourite light display started by the Blackham family that now lives on at Greendale Acres. Please note that train tickets are not included with admission, and must be booked separately. If the train is fully booked, visitors are welcome to wander the path by foot!

Arctic Express takes over the Greater Vancouver Zoo November 22nd, 2025 – January 10th, 2026.  and offers a frosty journey through the North! Riders will experience an exciting adventure as they help researchers track a missing reindeer. Families can enjoy the Zoo Lights evening experience throughout the zoo, which includes a craft market, plenty of cozy drinks and tasty bites, and of course… photos with Santa!

Part of the Winter Night Lights in Agassiz, a holiday mini-passenger train will run through Pioneer Park December 12th and 13th, 2025. Visitors will have the chance to meet Santa and the Grinch, all while enjoying holiday games and festivities. Food trucks will be on-site, offering delicious snacks…and complimentary hot chocolate will help keep your hands warm!

Finally, the 2025 CPKC Holiday Train rolls into Agassiz on December 19th at 5:45pm. This annual charity drive tours train stations throughout Canada and the U.S. to raise money, food, and awareness to support food banks and spread holiday cheer everywhere it goes. Be there to witness its grand entrance, all brightly decorated, and enjoy live performances from Canadian rock band, Barenaked Ladies on stage at the “live music car.”

In other words… It’s super refreshing! The stuffy air of summer has thinned out to make way for a brisk atmosphere, perfect for following your sense of adventure and indulging in your dark side! And to further bolster the Halloween season, the Fraser Valley is filled with unique opportunities to get into the spirit of things. 

Wherever you’re at on the spooky spectrum, we’ve prepped a ghastly itinerary that goes from 1 (mildly unsettling) to 10 (full-on, terror-filled, out-of-body experience followed by uncontrollable weeping). Just a few casual options, you know! Have a look (if you dare) and see which of the following ghastly locales might be up your (dark) alley.

Sasquatch Museum – Harrison River Valley

Easing right into things, this visitor centre/museum offers an informative tour of local history and heritage. Among the stories you’ll hear are firsthand accounts of Sasquatch’s sightings! The elusive creature that has baffled experts for generations is the subject of a dedicated exhibition profiling witness testimony, local legend, and scientific speculation. Whether Sasquatch is friend or foe, you can survey the evidence and draw your own conclusions!

Agassiz-Harrison Museum – Harrison River Valley

Scream Scale: 2/10

We’re tiptoeing into the paranormal now…

While the Agassiz-Harrison Museum (a former Canadian Pacific Railway station built in the late 1800s) might not seem like a typical spooky attraction, it is said that a restless spirit has set up shop at this otherwise friendly and informative museum. There have been numerous accounts of “Maude” (believed to be the spirit of a former cleaning woman of the since-demolished Bella Vista Hotel), spreading an eerie atmosphere with her presence within the museum.

While nobody knows what Maude wants, she seems particularly interested in the placement of certain items. As staff members detail, a framed photo was repeatedly knocked down, even after they rehung it multiple times. This led them to conclude that they had better take it down altogether to appease the restless spectre. Is Maude real? Perhaps. But thankfully, she more often seems to quietly linger among the memories of the museum, possibly to stay close to the artifacts that remind her of her husband, a deceased CP station agent. Stop by for a visit, and see if you can detect her presence!

Black Casket Cafe – Abbotsford

Scream Scale: 2.5/10

More of a crossroads for wandering souls than a restaurant, this foreboding eatery has year-round Hallows Eve vibes. Filled with an ambience that can only be called elegantly macabre, Black Casket is an immersive experience of bold flavours, cursed decor, and mood lighting. Halloween costumes are always welcome!

Witchy Boo – Chilliwack

Scream Scale: 3/10

If you’re a witch, warlock, or you just happen to dabble in the dark arts from time to time, consider this a one-stop shop. From books on the occult, to tarot cards and all manner of gothic decor, Witchy Boo has everything you need to spruce up your den, keep, or dungeon.

Williams St – Chilliwack 

Scream Scale:  5/10

Head down a rabbit hole of Chilliwack’s most spirited stories and unexplained events! One of the area’s most cursed streets awaits with all kinds of unnerving phenomena like cursed paintings, spontaneous fires, and phantom footsteps. Explore at your own risk!

Reapers Maze of Terror – Chilliwack

Scream Scale:  7.5

We’re getting into darker territory now. A seemingly innocent corn maze by day; by night, this shadowy labyrinth becomes a portal into nightmares! As soon as you enter, the gauntlet will be thrown down and all manner of creatures will take to the maze as well. Definitely not for the faint of heart!

Terror at Tanglebank – Abbotsford

Scream Scale:  8/10

For a few nights a year, the immaculately kept nature trails at Tanglebank Estate grow over with unkempt foliage. With each new layer of cover comes more dark comfort for the creatures that lie in wait. This tour through a haunted forest is filled with a tangible sense of dread as you encounter horrific scenes lit by the soft glow of jack-o’-lanterns, and mingle with maniacal characters who feed on fear! If you’re arriving with little ones, there is of course, a more family-friendly version of the event that dials down the nightmare fuel. A wonderfully atmospheric prelude to trick or treating!

Kilby Historic: Bumps in the Night (Oct 24 & 25) – Harrison River Valley

Scream Scale:  9/10

With over 120 years of history, this historic general store and hotel has undoubtedly seen a few dark days. With the help of a supernatural team of experts, you’ll stalk the shadowy grounds of this storied attraction, looking for signs of foul play and post-mortem activity. Not recommended for kids under 10, this dastardly tradition is bound to send a chill up your spine. Thankfully hot apple cider will be served to calm your nerves!

Maan Farms: Scariest Corn Maze in Canada – Abbotsford

Scream Scale:  10/10

Only the SCARIEST corn maze in the country. If you can make it through this trip through pure terror, then you have proven there is no fear you cannot conquer. While the Maan family looks warm and welcoming on their website, it has us suspecting that it’s all a well-manicured front for their true agenda—making the Fraser Valley SHUDDER. With incredible attention to production and atmosphere, the Maan’s outdo themselves year after year. An experience unlike any other!

It’s an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of the Indigenous communities across the country; a time to honour the stories, achievements and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to impact how Canada evolves.

These are some of the engaging, educational, and fun events that you can attend in the Fraser Valley this month to learn more about and honour local Indigenous communities, and celebrate their unique and diverse cultures!

June 8 – Abbotsford – Selxwí:chel Arts and Culture Day

Join a vibrant day of shared culture with this Indigenous-themed community gathering. Spread across a schedule of engaging events, visitors can take part in craft workshops, traditional dance performances, and educational story telling. A fantastic all ages, family-friendly day of artistry, culture, and learning!

June 17th – Chilliwack – Rooted Waters & Cultural Showcase

With food trucks, an artisan vendor market and all kinds of unique performances, this Indigenous celebration is open to anyone looking to learn, snack and socialize. Stop by and meet master carvers as they shape pieces of cedar onsite, or wander the vendor stalls and marvel at the meticulous detail of each crafted treasure. There will also be a ticketed puppeteer performance showcasing the Indigenous Sturgeon Story, and a film screening highlighting the nine Indigenous nations connected to Chilliwack!

June 20 – Abbotsford – National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration

The gorgeous Mill Lake Park is the perfect setting for an annual summer celebration like this one. Free and open to everyone, visitors are invited to be a part of Indigenous knowledge, history, and art. Get ready for an immersive and culture-rich way to kick off your weekend.

June 21 – Harrison River Valley – First Nations Bead-a-thon

On National Indigenous People’s Day, the Ruby Creek Art Gallery invites you to witness the artistry of beading at their First Nations Bead-a-thon. Watch the local First Nations Beading demonstrations, shop the Beading Marketplace, and enjoy Bannock and other delicious delights at the food trucks. Everyone is welcome to this free family event!

June 28 & 29 – Harrison River Valley – Sasquatch Days

A three-day festival that first began in 1938, Sasquatch Days brings our community together for an energetic celebration on the shores of Harrison Lake. The lake is the traditional territory of Sts’ailes People on the ancient village site of Qwólts, so it’s the ideal spot for canoe races, salmon BBQ, medicine walks and much more!

Good Neighbours Lhewá:mel Project – The Gathering Place and the Welcome Portal

Not an event, but worth visiting nonetheless, these two new spots in Peach Park create wonderful opportunities to reflect on Indigenous history, and champion the culture of Canada’s first people. Start by stepping through the Welcome Portal, which acts as an invitation to all cultures to consider their relationship with nature and the land they stand on. Walk a little further and you’ll reach The Gathering Place, a permanent exhibit that tells the story of S’ólh Téméxw (our sacred land), and lays out how we can collectively move forward with respect and inclusivity.

Drag Bingo – June 4 + July 2 (or the first Wednesday of every month)

You’ve never played bingo quite like this! Held at SideKick Brewing and hosted by Mistress of the Ceremonies, Hailey Adler, this is an always lively and entertaining way to meet new people and maybe even win some cash prizes. It’s a recurring event the first Wednesday of every month, so if you don’t make it for Pride, there’s always next month!

Chilliwack Pride Festival – July 13th

If you thought tulip season was Chilliwack’s brightest time of year, think again! The annual diversity celebration returns with this year’s theme, Bloom with Pride. Visitors can expect all kinds of colourful performers and vendors throughout the day, as well as lots of area food trucks supplying the party with tasty snacks.

Through spring and summer, there are countless ways to plan a vacation getaway, whether you’re out for just a night or a long weekend. Each of the featured locales ahead is ideal for mixing and matching to create a wonderful family staycation that kids will love. So read through, pick your faves, and curate a route through these proudly Canadian businesses and experiences.

1. Abbotsford Staycation

Abbotsford is home to an abundance of hidden gems to discover. You’ll find plenty of family staycation ideas here, from fruit picking and fuzzy barnyard friends at Taves Family Farm to a bit of friendly competition via mini golf and old-school arcade games at Castle Fun Park. There’s no better way to settle a score than with a bit of putt-putt and Pacman!

Of course, if you’d rather meander through Historic Downtown Abbotsford and discover new spots at your own pace, the heritage-filled downtown core has all kinds of small businesses ready to welcome you to the community. Start with a frothy London Fog from the specialty coffee menu at Boardwalk Cafe & Games and a pensive game of Scrabble from their collection of over 300 board games.

​​When enjoying a full itinerary, you might need a moment to cool off, which is where the outdoor Centennial Pool at Mill Lake Park comes in. With the serene lake nearby and an onsite water park for the kids, this is an excellent spot to relax by the water or unwind with a wander through the park trails. 

While exploring, you’ll likely come across another interesting historic landmark of the area, the Trethewey House. Built in 1919, the house is a municipal heritage site where visitors can walk through a preserved home from over 100 years ago!

For more gorgeous greenery, a stroll at Jubilee Park is next, where you’ll find inviting picnic areas alongside a great playground. The park frequently hosts live events and farmer’s markets, so you never know what might pop up while lounging in the shade. Wrap up your wanders with a stop at Banter Ice Cream, where every flavour is made in-house using locally available ingredients.

With so many options to fill your days with, consider extending your staycation to include an overnight (or two). Abbotsford is full of charming home-base accommodations while you’re there, whether you’re looking for full-service family suites with a pool or a more private cottage experience.

2. Plan Your Chilliwack Trip

Chilliwack is another star community of the Valley with unparalleled nature and character-filled local Canadian businesses. Making the most of your staycation starts with admiring the area’s stunning wildlife. With the Chilliwack Itinerary of the Fraser Valley Bird Trail you’ll get insider tips about where to spot beauties like the Spotted Towhee and the Belted Kingfisher. Follow the trail and make your way to Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park, a 107-hectare park known to be home to over 180 different bird species! The park features a floating boardwalk leading to a viewing platform and a second wheelchair-accessible viewing platform close to the parking lot, as well as approximately 2 km of easy walking trails with viewing areas and benches. Please note that due to the sensitive ecosystem surrounding Cheam Lake and an abundance of wildlife, plant and bird species, pets are not permitted within the Regional Park.

Birds aren’t the only reason to get out and explore the lush scenery either. The Fraser River and its surrounding waterways are filled with salmon, trout and sturgeon, making Chilliwack a natural destination for anglers of all skill levels. Bring your own gear and wade out, or grab some supplies from the Visitor Centre’s Fishing Rod Loan Program beforehand. If you’re not sure where to start, Bent Rods Guiding and Fishing Co. and Pacific River Outfitting Company have guided tours that will show you everything you need to know to land your first catch.

Closer to the town centre, Chilliwack is famous for its quaint village-style area, District 1881. Stroll the lanes of District 1881 or cross the street to explore storefronts down Mill & Wellington—this area is ideal for window shopping (the town is home to the biggest used book store in BC) or just relaxing on a sunny patio (swing by one of the community craft breweries for a pitstop).

At the end of a long day of exploring you’re likely going to need a bit of RnR, and Chilliwack has you covered for first class accommodations too! From campsites to full-service hotels, you’ll find more than a few cozy options. A few notable spots include Hotel Morado, Coast Chilliwack, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, and Vedder River Inn. 3. Your Staycation in the Harrison River Valley

Looking to experience the breadth of local culture that the Fraser Valley is home to? Look no further than Harrison! Start at the Harrison Visitor Information Centre + Sasquatch Museum—a community hub for history, tradition, and rotating arts and culture exhibits. Visitors can get acquainted with the lineage of the area, including stories and heritage of the Sts’ailes and the Sq’ewá:lxw people. The centre also shares the compelling legend of the Sasquatch which includes artifacts and firsthand witness accounts! Afterwards, follow the Sasquatch Trail where you can see if you can catch a glimpse of the storied creature yourself.

Now that you’ve got an idea of the lay of the land, it’s time to jump right into things at Sasquatch Mountain Resort! In the summer months, the mountain comes alive with scenic hiking trails, fun community events, and mountain biking* routes that wind through lush alpine landscapes. You can take it all in at your own pace—whether you’re up for an adventure or looking to kick back. A great way to slow things down is with a round on the resort’s 9-hole disc golf course, set among stunning alpine meadows. It’s free to play—just don’t forget to bring your own discs or purchase a set at the shop & end up with a souvenir from your adventure!

Once you’ve burned off a bit of energy there, we suggest slowing down your staycation and taking in the local sights. At Kilby Historic Site, you’ll immerse yourself in an immaculately preserved community from the early 1900s. The history-rich attraction puts you squarely in the daily life of a rural town with everything from a general store to in-character guides.

From there, if you’re interested in picking up a few edible souvenirs, then we recommend a stop at Earthwise Society Agassiz Farm. The gorgeous farm is home to forest trails, and a farm store fully stocked with fresh produce from the fields and artisan goods care of local small businesses.

After a day packed with unique local experiences, you may be too wiped to drive home. Thankfully, Harrison’s accommodations will take good care of you for as long as you need, whether you’re looking for boutique inns, bed and breakfasts, or spacious RV parks.
