The Culture City: Program Series is a new annual series of multicultural community programming hosted across the City from June to November. Participants will learn more about the rich and diverse cultures and communities in Abbotsford through free, interactive, family friendly arts and culture programming and events. 

The Culture City: Program Series launched with a feature partnership at Selxwí:chel  Arts and Culture Day, a free, family event celebrating Indigenous culture on June 9 at Trethewey House Heritage site

Are you looking for an opportunity to meet people and socialize with other seniors who are interested in art, culture, and history? Through thought-provoking discussion, personal storytelling, and hands-on activities, our special C3 series examines themes related to our current exhibitions. using a variety of creative methods, including visual and literary arts. Join us at 10:15 AM for coffee, program goes from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM. This will be a great Art Gallery Event for those interested!

This FREE parent/child class lets our littlest artists get creative! Enjoy storytime at Clearbrook Library at 10am, and then come over to The Reach for some hands-on artistic exploration! The Taste of Abby Night Market returns on Friday, September 13, at Jubilee Park, featuring a night of mouthwatering food and beverages from local vendors, with live performances by Ryan McAllister, Greg Neufeld, and Kyler Pierce!

  • Include admission along with $20 worth of food and beverage tokens to use at the Night Market vendors.

The City of Abbotsford’s 2024 Artist in residence, Molly Gray, will be working out of a pop-up studio at the Clearbrook Library lobby. Drop-in and say hello to
the artist, view the creative process, and contribute to a collaborative painting on-site. All ages welcome, no registration required.

Gordon Taylor is the author of the biography A Mount Lehman Native Son: The Life and Times of Doug Taylor. Gordon is Doug’s eldest son, and upon his fathers passing he used the extensive notes that his father left as well as his own research to write his father’s book. Doug Taylor was member of a pioneer family, a businessman, farmer, veteran, politician, and a member of many local organizations. He held positions as the Mayor and as the Alderman in Matsqui.

If you are looking to build on your own understanding; walk beside us at the Stetís ímexstowx Gathering on September 30th between 10am-3pm in Abbotsford’s Civic Plaza.

All ages are welcome to this free indoor/outdoor event, where we will come together to learn and share. The public event will feature:

• Story Presentations: Engage in captivating narratives that shed light on Indigenous history and culture.

• Craft Activities: Create meaningful, hands-on crafts that promote understanding and respect.

• Live Presentations: Gain insights from speakers and thought leaders who champion Truth and Reconciliation.

• Luminous Waters Puppet Performance: Don’t miss this magical performance at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (MCA) at 11:45am and 2:15pm. Seats available on a first come first served basis.

This family-friendly performance is inspired the our award-winning children’s book Semá:th X̱ó:tsa: Sts’ólemeqwelh Sx̱ó:tsa / Great-Gramma’s Lake.

These special, FREE performances are in honor of Truth & Reconciliation, and are part of the larger Stetís ímexstowx Gathering on September 30th between 10am-3pm in Abbotsford’s Civic Plaza.

Performance Times: 11:45am & 2:15pm at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium

Working with professional puppeteer Tamara Unroe, Indigenous Education, and drama educator Ana Horner, students from Abbotsford School District immersed themselves in the story of Semá:th X̱ó:tsa (Sumas Lake) to develop this spectacular performance. The students bring to life three larger-than-life illuminated puppets based on more-than human beings that would have once lived in and around the lake.
